Bio

erincolliganI hold a Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed.) and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.), both from the New School University. Additionally, I am an Orton-Gillingham Fellow, working with students as a clinician and training teachers in the OG approach to literacy intervention.  I am certified through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators – the only organization established and authorized under New York State Education Law expressly to establish and maintain professional and ethical standards for practitioners and educators of the O-G approach for the treatment of dyslexia. Orton-Gillingham is considered the “Gold Standard” for teaching students with dyslexia.

Additionally, I am a certified Dyslexia Therapist through the International Dyslexia Association and have trained in Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) Writing: An Evidence-Based Approach to Teaching Writing. As well as being a literacy specialist, I have trained with MaryDee Sklar of Executive Functioning Success and Tera Sumpter of  Seeds of Learning (R) as an Executive Functioning Therapist and Consultant.

I have been in private practice as a learning specialist for over 23 years. Prior to this, I taught middle school English and various university-level courses. I have lectured throughout the New York area on topics such as Executive Functioning, the writing process for learning-disabled adults and children, and dyslexia. I consult with various educational law firms as an expert witness and work closely with families and schools in developing individualized education plans (IEP). I continue to attend literacy conferences as well as additional trainings for my profession such as Collaborative Problem Solving(R);  Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing and Verbalizing (R) and Seeing Stars (R).
