I hold a Master’s Degree in Education (M.Ed.) and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.), both from the New School University. Additionally, I am an Orton-Gillingham Fellow, working with students as a clinician and training teachers in the OG approach to literacy intervention. I am certified through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators – the only organization established and authorized under New York State Education Law expressly to establish and maintain professional and ethical standards for practitioners and educators of the O-G approach for the treatment of dyslexia. Orton-Gillingham is considered the “Gold Standard” for teaching students with dyslexia.
Additionally, I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist, Qualified Instructor through the Academic Language Therapy Association, as well as a Dyslexia Therapist through the International Dyslexia Association. I am trained in Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) Writing: An Evidence-Based Approach to Teaching Writing, The Writing Revolution (R), Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing and Verbalizing (R) and Seeing Stars (R). As well as being a literacy specialist, I have trained with MaryDee Sklar of Executive Functioning Success and Tera Sumpter of Seeds of Learning (R) as an Executive Functioning Therapist and Consultant.
I have practiced as a learning specialist for over 24 years. Prior to this, I taught middle school English and various university-level courses. I present throughout the New York area on topics such as Executive Functioning, the writing process for learning-disabled adults and children, and dyslexia. I consult with educational law firms as an expert witness and work closely with families and schools to develop individualized education plans (IEPs), 504 plans, and behavioral interventions that support executive functioning in the classroom.
